You may use Haolei for personal, educational, research, and non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:

• Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or bulk-download dictionary content in a manner that disrupts the service.
• Submit false, misleading, or harmful content through the suggestion form.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of our infrastructure or API.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws and regulations.

3. Intellectual Property

The source code for Haolei is open-source and available on GitHub under its stated licence. The dictionary content — translations, definitions, and example sentences — is the intellectual property of Haolei and its contributors. You may reference individual entries for educational or research purposes with appropriate attribution. Wholesale reproduction or redistribution of the dictionary database is not permitted without written consent.

4. User Contributions

When you submit a word suggestion or improvement, you grant Haolei a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, edit, and publish that contribution as part of the dictionary. You confirm that your submission is original and does not infringe the rights of any third party.

5. Accuracy of Content

While we strive for accuracy, dictionary entries are provided on an “as-is” basis. Haolei makes no warranty — express or implied — regarding the completeness, accuracy, or fitness for purpose of any translation, definition, or example sentence. Use of the content for critical or professional purposes should involve verification from authoritative linguistic sources.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Haolei and its maintainers shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service or its content.
